The Landscape of Womanhood: Maiden, Mother, and Crone

Sacred Soma | November 15–21 | Dominical, Costa Rica
There is something every woman is moving through, whether she realizes it or not:
the landscape of womanhood.
Our cycles and rhythms. Our biological, psychic, and spiritual transitions.
The evolution through maiden, mother, and crone.
At Sacred Soma, we will explore the changing hormonal landscapes and corresponding orientations and priorities that arise and evolve as we traverse the medicine journey of being a woman.
Not simply as a biological process, but as an unfolding story. One that connects our physical experience to our inner world, our ancestral wisdom, and our place in the fabric of life.
The Maiden, the Mother, and the Crone
The Maiden is in our mind — exploring, experimenting, gathering knowledge, forming the stories that shape us, trying on different purposes and personas.
The Mother is in our womb — accessing the magic and power to create and sustain life, the capacity to hold more, the courage to protect and nurture what is sacred and precious.
The Crone is in our bones — the knowing within that is the deepest and the oldest, the access to collective wisdom and vision, the eternal part of us — our legacy.
Not rigid categories, nor identities we must leave behind as we move into the next phase of life. We contain all three, always, while also embodying each phase as our dominant expression, in our own divine timing.
The origin and the eternal, the new and old, the uncertain and steadfast, the playful and righteous, the joyful and enraged, the selfish and selfless, the seeker and the guide.
All of these expressions belong to us.
And yet, our culture has not always made room for the fullness of this experience.
We have learned to celebrate the Maiden — her youth, her beauty, her possibility. We have been encouraged to desire her appearance and, in many ways, to continue embodying her long after our bodies and lives have begun asking something different of us.
Meanwhile, the Mother is often valued for what she gives to others, and the Crone is too often rendered invisible by the over-culture.
It is this kind of distortion that renders the fabric of human existence bankrupt, as each aspect of our evolution offers essential ingredients to the whole of humanity.
The myth of disappearing as we age has been perpetuated in a culture that has struggled to recognize the value of women beyond youth and reproduction.
But aging is not a departure from our power, but an arrival into a our most powerful expression of it.
Finally- we are living in a time that is asking the question that changes everything: What if the changing landscape of our biology, our appearance, our desires, and our states of mind are not something to resist, but a divinely designed part of a much larger story?
Rhythms Within Rhythms. Cycles Within Cycles.
Our bodies are changing throughout our lives.
The hormonal landscape of our early cycling years is not the same as that of our fertile years. Perimenopause and menopause bring further transitions, each with its own biological realities and potential shifts in how we experience ourselves and the world.
These changes do not determine who we are. Nor does every woman experience them in the same way.
But understanding the relationship between our biology and our experience can offer us a beautiful framework for making sense of the transitions we move through.
It invites us to become curious about the changing needs, capacities, and priorities that emerge throughout our lives.
To recognize that our physical experience is part of a larger story — one that includes not only our hormones and physiology, but also our relationships, our culture, our ancestry, and the meaning we make of being alive.
This is where biology meets story.
Where the science of our bodies intersects with the archetypal language through which generations of women have explored the mysteries of life.
Where we can begin to understand ourselves through both the material reality of our bodies and the deeper wisdom we carry.
The Maiden, the Mother, and the Crone offer us a language for this exploration. A way to recognize the many expressions of feminine life, and the wisdom, capacity, and contribution each brings.
The curiosity of the Maiden. The generative power of the Mother. The discernment and vision of the Crone.
We need all of them.
And our communities need the women who embody them.
The Wisdom of Women Across Generations
One of the things that makes Sacred Soma so special is the women who are gathering.
We have intentionally brought together a group of women in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s.
Women who have walked the path of motherhood and menopause. Women who are holding life within their bellies as we speak. Women calling new life into their careers, their creative work, and their communities. Women sustaining life as mothers, grandmothers, artists, and elders.
Women at different thresholds, with different stories, each carrying a piece of the larger picture.
Imagine what becomes possible when we bring all of these women into one space.
When a woman in her 20s can sit beside a woman in her 60s and recognize something of her own future.
When a woman in the midst of motherhood can hear from a woman who has moved beyond it.
When a woman entering a new season of life can find companionship and perspective in the stories of women who have walked that path before her.
We begin to see ourselves not as isolated individuals navigating our own challenges, but as part of a much larger continuum of feminine life.
There is something profoundly meaningful about being witnessed by women who understand a particular threshold because they are standing in it themselves — and by women who have crossed it and carry the wisdom of what came after.
We have so much to learn from one another.
And so much to remember about ourselves when we are in the company of women who have walked different paths, crossed different thresholds, and arrived at different kinds of knowing.
The Medicine of Place and People
Sacred Soma is the medicine of place and people, rhythm and relationship, science and soul, story and belief.
A gathering chosen, woven, and divinely guided — with the greatest intention.
In Dominical, Costa Rica, we are creating a space where we can come into a deeper understanding of ourselves through the wisdom of our bodies, the stories of the ones who came before us, and those sitting beside us.
Through somatics, science, ancestral wisdom, storytelling, and the personal experiences of the women gathered together, we will explore what it means to inhabit the fullness of our womanhood.
The beauty of the jungle and the ocean. The rhythms of nourishing food, rest, movement, and time in nature. The conversations that unfold when women come together with curiosity, openness, and a willingness to share their stories.
These are not separate from the experience. They are part of the medicine of place and people — the conditions that allow us to slow down, listen, and make space for what is ready to emerge.
This is not about becoming someone new.
It is about coming into a deeper relationship with who we are, recognizing the many expressions we contain, and reclaiming the fullness of what it means to be a woman.
Sacred Soma: A Journey Home to Ourselves
And this is why I know that if you are a woman, Sacred Soma is for you.
Wherever you are in your life, there is a place for you here.
Whether you are exploring who you are becoming, nurturing the life and work you are creating, or gathering the wisdom of all that you have lived, your presence belongs in this continuum.
There is a place for the Maiden, the Mother, and the Crone.
A place for the seeker and the guide. The uncertain and the steadfast. The playful and the righteous.
A place for all that we are, and all that we are still becoming.
